Kurbin River

The Kurbin River is 260 kilometers long and is a first-order tributary on the right bank of the Heilongjiang River. It has a drainage area of 4,900 square kilometers, with perennially abundant water flow, a winding river course, and significant elevation drops, offering considerable hydroelectric potential. According to plans, a total of 11 cascade hydropower stations can be built along the entire river basin. The Kurbin Hydropower Station, built in 1984, is located more than 160 kilometers from Xunke, on the upper reaches of the Kurbin River. It covers an area of 44 square kilometers and has a reservoir capacity of 420 million cubic meters.

The Kurbin Hydropower Station is exceptionally magnificent, with a dam height of 23.5 meters and a total installed capacity of 6,000 kilowatts—100 times larger than the Baishi Reservoir. Moving downstream along the river, you’ll come across the Baoshan Hydropower Station. Construction of the Baoshan Hydropower Station began in 1993. It integrates the fifth, sixth, and seventh stages, with a total installed capacity of 19,500 kilowatts and an annual power generation of 58 million kWh. The most distinctive feature of the Baoshan Hydropower Station is its tunnel-type water diversion for power generation.
