Dongshan Forest Park

Dongshan Forest Park is located on the eastern side of Qike Town, Xunke County. In 1992, it was approved as a provincial-level forest park by the Provincial Forestry Department under approval document No. Hei Lin Ying Zi [1992] 310. The forest park and the state-owned Qike Forest Farm operate under a unified management system with two names but one team, carrying out unified management and operation. The Dongshan Provincial Forest Park was re-planned in 2004 by the Heilongjiang Provincial Forestry Survey and Design Institute, which adjusted the operational scale of the park. The designated planning area is 1,505.1 hectares, mainly comprising the Dongshan Lake Scenic Area, the Forest Tourist Scenic Area (including the Qike Dongshan Forest Area and the Kurbin River Drifting Scenic Area), the Border River Viewing Scenic Area, and the Schisandra Berry Plantation Area, among others. The construction of Dongshan Forest Park has been carried out under the care and support of the Provincial Forestry Department and the Municipal Forestry Bureau, and under the leadership of the County Forestry Bureau. It revolves around the county government’s goal of establishing a border ecological tourism brand, upholding the scientific development concept, being market-oriented, and focusing on ecological construction, greening, and environmental beautification as core elements. The direction is to promote forest ecological tourism and contribute to building a harmonious society.

Qike Town: Qike Town is under the jurisdiction of Xunke County. It is located on the northern edge of the county, bordering the Heilongjiang River, and faces the Russian Amur Region’s Boyarkovo across the river. It serves as the county seat of Xunke.

Qike Town, originally named “Qikete,” derived its name from “Qikelishan” (Qike Mountain) to the east of the town. Qikete is a transliteration of the Manchu word “Qikle,” meaning “high mountain.” When the county was established, the character “te” was dropped, and it was shortened to “Qike.” During the Qing Dynasty, in the mid-17th century, it was a hunting and dwelling area for the Oroqen people.
