The Light of Petroleum

The "Light of Petroleum" is a famous sculpture in Daqing City, Heilongjiang Province, designed by local artists Wu Jingxing, Zhang Shaojie, and Zhan Guangyan. It was unveiled on July 28, 1987. The sculpture is located at the intersection of Zhongqi Road, Sada Road, and Century Avenue in Saertu District, Daqing.

In 2009, the 19th meeting of the 8th Daqing Municipal People’s Congress Standing Committee passed a resolution approving the sculpture "The Light of Petroleum" as the city emblem of Daqing.　

The main structure of the "Light of Petroleum" sculpture consists of a base, a tower body, and a tower emblem. The base is a cylinder 3.5 meters high and 8 meters in diameter, surrounded by a 2.1-meter-high cast bronze relief band. Above it rises the tower body, a triangular prism formed by arranging steel pipes 30 meters high and over half a meter in diameter, with a 2.4-meter-diameter copper round relief on each of the three upper corners. The surrounding ring features six flying petrels, reaching nearly 5 meters in height, forming a dynamic representation of surging waves.

The sculpture encompasses the full essence from underground to above ground, and from ancient times to the present, using modern three-dimensional symbolic techniques to express humanity's majestic power and determination in conquering nature.
