The Wuying Cuibei Wetland Reserve is situated at the source of the Ximalu River and the Kulbin River in Heilongjiang. The area boasts a crisscrossing system of rivers and numerous lakes, making it a representative wetland type in China’s higher-latitude northern regions. It was designated as a provincial-level wetland nature reserve in September 2002.

The reserve lies within the transition zone between mixed Korean pine and broadleaf forests and light coniferous forests, encompassing forest swamps, herbaceous swamps, sphagnum swamps, aquatic vegetation, and marshy meadows, all distributed in small, patchy island formations. The wetland is home to 164 bird species, including 9 under national first-class protection and 29 under second-class protection; 37 mammal species, among which 1 is under national first-class protection and 36 under second-class protection; and 1,120 plant species, including 13 under national protection and over 100 types of herbs with development value.
