Hongxing Hoji River National Wetland Park is a national-level wetland park.

Hongji River National Wetland Park is located in the Hongji River Forest Farm, Hongxing District, Yichun City, 138 kilometers from downtown Yichun. It is a comprehensive national wetland park integrating wetland conservation and restoration, public education, scientific research, rational utilization of wetland resources, wetland sightseeing experiences, and leisure tourism.

The Lesser Khingan Mountains are the major mountain range in northern China. The area where the Hoji River Wetland is situated belongs to the inland wetland type on the northern slope of the Lesser Khingan Mountains, representing a regionally distinctive and typical forest swamp wetland ecosystem. The park contains five types of wetlands, covering a total wetland area of 2,019 hectares. Major rivers within the Hoji River Wetland include the Hoji River, Kustu River, Erpi River, and Kulbin River, all of which eventually flow into the Heilongjiang River, making it one of the important water conservation areas in the upper reaches of the Heilongjiang basin.

The flat terrain, complex wetland types, and large wetland area play an extremely vital role in water conservation, preventing flash floods, effectively replenishing groundwater, and providing drought and flood mitigation. This is of great significance for both the industrial and agricultural production as well as ecological protection in the forested areas of the northern Lesser Khingan Mountains and the Heilongjiang basin. In addition to the five types of wetlands, the area also features extensive mixed coniferous and broad-leaved forests as well as broad-leaved forests. With rich species and high biodiversity, it is one of the regions abundant in biological diversity.

There are five species of Class I nationally protected animals in Hongji River National Wetland Park, including the sable, golden eagle, white-naped crane, red-crowned crane, and oriental white stork. There are also 42 species of Class II nationally protected animals: such as black bears, brown bears, lynxes, snow hares, and Eurasian spoonbills. The excellent ecological environment, abundant species, and diverse landscape types within the Hoji River Wetland together form a typical plant community of the cold temperate mixed coniferous and broad-leaved forests of northern China. This makes it an ideal base for conservation, scientific research, and environmental education. The establishment of the park, the implementation of conservation and restoration projects, and the improvement of infrastructure and tourism facilities have significantly enhanced the reception capacity of the surrounding tourism market and enriched the range of regional tourism products.

Walking along the boardwalks of Hoji River Wetland Park, you’ll breathe in the fresh air and enjoy the faint scent of grass carried by the breeze—it’s truly refreshing. Cute little animals in the park peek out at visitors from a distance, coexisting harmoniously with nature. Occasionally, a group of wild ducks will suddenly burst out of the grass, giving visitors quite a start.

On the water in the distance, grayish-white wild ducks are playing with their companions, occasionally letting out cheerful quacks, while several unnamed water birds glide overhead.
