Changlin Island, originally named "Changlinzi," is located in the triangular area where the Qixing River and Naoli River converge within Baoqing County in the eastern part of Heilongjiang Province. This convergence forms a vast lake, with a piece of land protruding from the water surface in the center, covered in dense vegetation — hence the name "Changlinzi."

In 1963, the Central News Film Studio came here to shoot a news documentary titled "Changlin Island," which depicted the hard work of pioneers reclaiming wasteland. Since then, "Changlinzi" was renamed "Changlin Island." It is now the site of the headquarters of the Fourth Sub-farm of the State-owned Farm 597. Changlin Island covers a total area of 385 square kilometers. Due to its strategic location and natural concealment, it served as a hidden base for the Northeast Anti-Japanese United Army during the period of Northeast China’s occupation.

In 1957, the Minister of State Farms instructed Huang Zhenrong, the farm director of Farm 852, to develop Changlin Island. Huang Zhenrong organized all cadres and workers from the Third Production Team of the Third Sub-farm of Farm 852, which is close to Changlin Island, to enter the island and reclaim land.

In 1958, hundreds of demobilized soldiers arrived on the island in batches to expand the reclamation efforts. By 1959, it had developed into the Fourth Sub-farm of Farm 597.

By 1992, the total cultivated land of the sub-farm had expanded to 210,000 mu. The 23rd, 24th, 25th, 27th, and 30th production teams, known as the "Five Golden Flowers," consistently ranked at the top of the sub-farm in terms of economic performance. Surrounded by water on three sides and covered with lush grass, Changlin Island provides an ideal habitat for waterfowl such as swans, red-crowned cranes, and wild ducks, and is designated as a county-level nature reserve.
