Within the Jingxin Plain, rivers flow through and lakes are scattered across the landscape, forming what is known as the "Jingxin Wetland," also referred to as the "Lower Tumen River Wetland." The main contiguous area of the wetland spans 5,874 hectares, making it one of the key protected wetlands in Jilin Province. This wetland boasts rich flora and fauna, including the only habitat in China where wild large-fruited roses grow.

According to records, the wetland is home to 32 species of fish, including five listed in the "Catalogue of Precious and Rare Aquatic Plants and Animals," such as chum salmon, beach spawning salmon, and Japanese lamprey. Statistics show that the area hosts 199 species of birds, including 18 rare national first- and second-class protected bird species such as the red-crowned crane. The forests surrounding the wetland also provide habitats for 24 species of wild mammals, five of which — the harbor seal, otter, sika deer, lynx, and black bear — are national second-class protected animals. The mild, humid climate, with warm winters and cool summers, is ideal for the growth of a wide variety of plants.

Preliminary statistics indicate that there are 336 species of wild plants from 76 families in the area, accounting for 15.2% of Jilin Province’s total wild plant species. The vast, moist, and diverse environment has made it an important stopover and breeding ground for migratory birds. Every spring and autumn, hundreds of thousands of migratory birds come to the Jingxin Wetland to feed and play. These birds are carefully protected by local residents, leading to a year-by-year increase in both the number and variety of species.
