The Twenty-Four Stones of Mapai

The ruins of the Twenty-Four Stones of Mapai are located east of Team 3, Mapai Village, Yuqing Town, on the west side of an irrigation channel. The western part of the site is adjacent to residential houses of Team 3, Mapai, while to the southeast there is a rural path with a roughly 2-meter-wide irrigation channel to its east.

The "Twenty-Four Stones" site spans over 10 meters from east to west and about 7.5 meters from north to south. According to local villagers, the original foundation stones were arranged in three parallel rows from east to west, with eight stones lined up vertically in each row. The foundation stones are irregular pentagonal pillars, approximately 90 cm in height, with a maximum diameter of 65 cm and the widest stone face measuring 90×45 cm. The Mapai "Twenty-Four Stones" site is largely similar to other Bohai-era "Twenty-Four Stones" sites in the suburbs of Dunhua City, such as Haiqingfang, Guandi Tun, and Yaodianzi — even the shapes of the foundation stones are alike. Clearly, this northern site belongs to the same period as the aforementioned sites and is also a Bohai architectural ruin.
