Northeast Liberation Memorial Tower

The Northeast Liberation Memorial Tower is a cultural tourism attraction.

The Northeast Liberation Memorial Tower is located in the center of Tumen City, Yanbian Prefecture, and presents a solemn and dignified appearance.

The Northeast Liberation Memorial Tower was built in September 1945, covering an area of 314 square meters. The base is square-shaped, while the main body is a square pyramid with each side measuring 13 meters and the tower standing 15 meters tall. Constructed with reinforced concrete and finished with a sand-washed stone surface, the top of the tower features a relief of the Soviet emblem (which has since fallen off). The tower was erected to commemorate the 20 Soviet Red Army soldiers who sacrificed their lives during the battle to liberate Tumen City on August 17, 1945. The front of the tower is inscribed in Russian with the words: “Glory to the heroic Red Army soldiers who fought to drive the Japanese invaders out of Tumen City” and “1945.8.” In May 1981, with the approval of the People's Government of Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture, the Northeast Liberation Memorial Tower was listed as a Second-Class Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit of the Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture. In August 2004, the Tumen Municipal People's Government carried out comprehensive renovations of the monument, giving it a completely renewed look.
