Tumen River Park

Tumen River Park is located on the banks of the Tumen River along the China–North Korea border, facing Namyang, North Korea, across the river. It stretches from Yanxing Hutong and Xinhua Road in Tumen City to the north, borders Kou’an Avenue to the west, and faces the Tumen River to the east. The park was established in 1982, extending over 2,000 meters along the riverbank, with stone embankments and asphalt-paved paths. The embankment features tourism-related amenities such as a photo studio and food service outlets. The park offers recreational facilities including motorboats, bamboo rafts, and kayaks for visitors to enjoy. From the Tumen River Embankment Park, visitors can gaze out over the railings to take in the scenic views of both countries along the riverbanks, a truly captivating experience. In the evening, as the park lights come on, the glittering lights of households on both sides of the river reflect on the water, while the river itself sparkles with star-like reflections. Laughter from visitors fills the air, and the distant mountains appear hazy and ethereal, adding a unique charm to the scene.

Tumen River Park began expansion in 2007, covering a total area of approximately 7 hectares. The total investment in the park amounted to 50 million yuan. The eastern side of the site features a straight embankment, while the western side has an irregular zigzag shape.

The design of Tumen River Park embodies the concept of harmony between people, nature, history, and culture, aiming to explore the essence and value of overall form and emotional space in urban design. Against the rich backdrop of the city’s history and culture, the park integrates the scenery of the Tumen River with daily human activities. By using modern landscape design language, it highlights and enhances the city’s unique character, striving to create a vibrant and open waterfront space.

The livability of Tumen River Park’s spaces provides residents with comprehensive urban facilities while also forming a rich tapestry of urban life scenes and moods: the central performance square — for folk activities, song and dance performances, and sports competitions; the entrance square — for viewing lanterns and striking stone drums; the children’s activity square — for swinging and playing on seesaws; the fitness and leisure square — for playing chess, cards, and observing masks; the riverside viewing square — for photography and boating; the leisure green space — for flying kites and wrestling. By shaping diverse and distinctive themes and landscapes, the park enhances the image of the port city, leaves a strong impression and special meaning, and injects vitality and spirit into the entire city of Tumen.
