Qing Zhao Mausoleum (Beiling)
Qing Zhao Mausoleum (Beiling) is a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The largest park in Shenyang, covering an area of 3.3 million square meters. In 1643 (the eighth year of the Chongde era of the Qing Dynasty), the Zhao Mausoleum, the tomb of Emperor Huang Taiji of the Qing Dynasty and Empress Xiaoduanwen Borjigit, was completed. In 1927, the Fengtian Provincial Government turned the Zhao Mausoleum into a park. Because it is located in the northern part of the city, it earned this name. The Zhao Mausoleum is one of Shenyang’s scenic landmarks, representing the pinnacle of ancient Chinese architecture and a fine example of cultural exchange between the Han and Manchu peoples.
The Square City is the main part of the mausoleum complex, with a structure similar to that of the Square City at Fuling. Beiling combines ancient traditional architecture with modern park facilities. Strolling through the park offers a blend of the past and present that evokes deep emotion. It is a must-visit destination for travelers from home and abroad coming to Shenyang. The ancient pines of Qing Zhao Mausoleum reach skyward, and there are many worthwhile sights, such as ??Liaoyun??, ??Qiao??, and ??Zhaojiang’s?? starry skies, all of which are worth seeing.
Also known as Qing Zhao Mausoleum, Beiling is the tomb of Huang Taiji, the second founding emperor of the Qing Dynasty, and Empress Xiaoduanwen Borjigit. Covering an area of 160,000 square meters, it is the largest and most magnificent of the “Three Mausoleums outside the Pass” from the early Qing period. Located about ten li north of the old city of Shenyang, it is also known as “Beiling” (Northern Tomb). It is a tourist attraction that blends imperial mausoleums from the Qing Dynasty with modern landscaping. The park features towering ancient pines, lush greenery, rippling lakes, majestic halls, and striking golden tiles, fully showcasing the grandeur and beauty of an imperial mausoleum along with the elegance and charm of a modern garden. In addition to housing the emperors and empresses, the Zhao Mausoleum also contains the tombs of several imperial consorts, including those in the palaces of Guanju, Linzhi, and ??Qing. It is the most representative imperial tomb among the early Qing mausoleums outside the Pass and is one of the most completely preserved ancient imperial mausoleum complexes in China.
