Shenyang Tang Mansion

The Tang Mansion refers to the villa of Tang Yulin located at No. 71 Beisanjing Street, Shenhe District, Shenyang City. It was once the residence of Tang’s concubines. Originally a purely European-style three-story building, it was constructed in 1931 and covers an area of 1,400 square meters.

After the founding of the People’s Republic of China, it served as the site of the Shenyang Intermediate People’s Court. After the court moved out, the building gradually fell into disuse, becoming abandoned and dilapidated over the years. This villa was once an outstanding architectural work in Shenyang’s history. Starting in 2004, it was recognized by Shenyang as one of the first batch of immovable cultural relics. In October 2006, the Tang Mansion began renovation and was covered with a glass enclosure, intended to be converted into the “Tang Mansion Restaurant,” set to open by the end of June 2007. As a restaurant, the former villa of Tang Yulin would then truly become the “Tang Mansion.”

According to sources, starting in 2004, the villa was renovated with an investment of 20 million yuan by Fangtonglian Group.

Tang Yulin (1871–1937), courtesy name Gechen, nicknamed “Tang the Big Tiger,” had a deep fondness for tigers. In his luxurious reception hall hung a large painting titled “Fierce Tiger Descending the Mountain,” and he often sat on a sofa covered with tiger skins. Originally from Yexian County, Shandong Province, he was born in Fuxin, Liaoning, and came from a background in the outlaw community. In 1902, he was incorporated into the Fengtian Forward Patrol Battalion as a platoon leader and assistant officer. In 1912, he was appointed as commander of the 27th Cavalry Regiment of the 27th Division, and was promoted to commander of the 52nd Brigade the following year. In 1917, he went to Beijing to participate in Zhang Xun’s restoration movement but fled back to Fuxin to live in seclusion after its failure. He returned to Fengtian in 1919...
