The Shengjing Grand Theatre is situated in Shenyang, China. Originally named the Shenyang Cultural and Arts Center, it has a total construction area of approximately 85,000 square meters and features a shape resembling a diamond. The main structure consists of three parts: a comprehensive theatre with 1,800 seats, a concert hall with 1,200 seats, and a multifunctional hall with 500 seats. The foundation work was completed by the end of 2010, the main structure was topped out by the end of 2011, the interior and exterior decoration was finished by the end of 2012, and the venue opened on October 1, 2014.

The Shengjing Grand Theatre is another landmark building constructed by Shenyang at the intersection of the Golden Corridor and Silver Belt, following the Shenyang Olympic Sports Center. The Shenyang Cultural and Arts Center is located west of the Wuai Hunhe Tunnel, east of Qingnian Street, north of the Hunhe River, and south of the Second Ring Road, covering an area of approximately 65,000 square meters.

Once completed, the Shenyang Cultural and Arts Center will be unprecedented in scale and will greatly alleviate the shortage of cultural performance venues in Shenyang. In terms of design, the overall structure mainly consists of three parts: the diamond-shaped exterior, the platform, and the base. According to the plan, the total construction area of the Shenyang Cultural and Arts Center is about 85,000 square meters, including 67,000 square meters for the main building and 18,000 square meters under the large platform. The main building has one underground floor and seven above-ground floors, with a total height of 60 meters. In addition to the three major spaces—the comprehensive theatre, concert hall, and multifunctional hall—the overall structure also includes an underground parking garage of over 3,000 square meters and auxiliary facilities spanning more than 30,000 square meters. It can host a wide variety of artistic performances such as dance dramas, plays, operas, ballets, concerts, fashion shows, and variety galas. Thanks to precise acoustic calculations, the performance quality here is fully comparable to that of the National Centre for the Performing Arts.

The Shenyang Cultural and Arts Center features a “diamond” shape, supported by a steel framework weighing tens of thousands of tons and a diamond-patterned exterior facade covering 30,000 square meters. Currently, the massive steel frame has been completed, consisting of 36 sets of embedded steel components, 26 cast steel nodes, 89 main steel structural members, and 576 secondary members. Among them, the heaviest cast steel node weighs 103 tons, making it an exceptionally large and heavy component rarely seen in domestic steel structure engineering.

The “diamond” surface also requires the installation of an overall glass curtain wall covering over 30,000 square meters. Once completed, the entire building will resemble a giant diamond with 64 facets. Each facet is composed of 400 triangular glass panels, totaling 25,600 pieces of glass. The largest piece of glass measures 1,231 square meters, and some pieces weigh up to a thousand kilograms. It is reported that the “diamond facets” of the center use four layers of double-insulated glass to enhance the “diamond’s” sparkle, making the giant diamond appear more transparent and aesthetically pleasing.
