Muchengyi Ruins

The Muchengyi Ruins are a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Liaoning Province.

The Muchengyi Ruins are one of the surviving military facilities from the Ming Dynasty in the Dalian area, holding significant historical and scientific value for understanding the distribution of military installations in the region during that period.

The ancient city area of Muchengyi spans approximately 182 meters from east to west and nearly 600 meters from north to south. The city walls stand over ten feet high and are 3.6 meters wide, featuring two city gates — one in the south and one in the north — each about twenty feet tall. There is a hole in the gate, and the architectural style of the gates is similar to that of Liaoyang's Eastern Capital City. The city is flanked by hills on both the eastern and western sides, with three beacon towers (lookout platforms) on the eastern hill and two on the western hill. The ancient city of Muchengyi is primarily built on a foundation of bluestone, with upper layers constructed from blue bricks (mostly from the Ming Dynasty, mixed with a small number of square bricks from the Han Dynasty). The structure is filled and bonded with yellow earth and white lime plaster (samples of which still exist), and it was built following the natural terrain. Part of the western wall was constructed from rammed earth, suggesting architectural features similar to those of ancient Han Dynasty cities.
