Lushun Dongjiguan Mountain is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.

The Dongjiguan Mountain Scenic Area includes the North Fortress, Erlongshan Fortress, Wangtai Battery, and the Russo-Japanese War Exhibition Hall.

The North Fortress of Dongjiguan Mountain is the main attraction of the scenic area and has been listed as a provincial-level cultural relics protection unit and a patriotic education base in Dalian [video]. In the late Qing Dynasty, it was originally a land defense fortification of the Qing army, where fierce battles took place during the First Sino-Japanese War. In 1904, it became an important battleground on the eastern land defense line of the Siege of Lushun during the Russo-Japanese War.

The North Fortress of Dongjiguan Mountain was built by the Russian Empire after it forcibly leased Lushunkou on March 27, 1898. To strengthen its land defenses, Russian Colonel Engineer Velichko designed the fortress, and construction began in early 1900 using large numbers of Chinese laborers. It is a permanent fortress made of poured concrete and pebbles and served as a key military structure on the eastern land defense line of Lushun under Russian control, primarily overseeing the open terrain to the north. After the fortress was completed, to prevent leaks of military secrets, the Russian authorities deceived over 1,000 Chinese workers involved in its construction onto the ship "Baltic" in June 1904 and sank it outside Lushunkou, resulting in the deaths of all the laborers on board.

The North Fortress of Dongjiguan Mountain is pentagonal in shape, with a perimeter of 496 meters and an area of over 9,900 square meters. It mainly consists of the fortress gate, officers' rooms, barracks, ammunition depot, telephone room, side chambers and hidden bunkers, outer perimeter tunnels, protective moat, trapezoidal well, secret passages, artillery positions, machine gun positions, kitchen combined with a first aid station, hidden bunkers, the rear courtyard of the fortress, wooden drawbridge, and scattered trenches. The northwest to southwest and southern parts house logistical and living facilities, while the northeast to southeast sections are military combat and defensive installations. This is a typical fortress designed for both offense and defense, with defense as its primary function. The concrete walls of the fortress are 0.9 meters thick and are further covered with sandbags and soil more than 2 meters thick. Although it contains no steel reinforcement, it can withstand artillery shells with a caliber of up to 230 mm.

The war between Japan and Russia over Chinese territory brought immense disaster upon the Chinese people. At that time, the artillery fire of the invading Japanese and Russian forces destroyed houses, killed residents, and razed many villages to the ground. Wujiafang Village at the foot of the mountain, which had 17 households and over 80 houses, was left with only the broken walls of five houses after the war and was subsequently renamed "Wu Jianfang Village" (Five-House Village). In May 1997, the 460-square-meter Russo-Japanese War Exhibition Hall was established here, housing over 300 historical photos, artifacts, and documents, as well as a large-scale electronic diorama of the Russo-Japanese War. The video hall also shows historical films and footage about the war. Today, although the smoke of war has long dissipated, it leaves behind solemn reflection. The site has become a base for patriotic and national defense education, as well as an outdoor filming location for war-themed productions by film and television departments. Approximately 800,000 visitors come here every year.
