Lushun Bird Garden

Lushun Bird Garden is located at the southern foot of the picturesque Baiyu Mountain in downtown Lushun, covering an area of 11,000 square meters. Surrounded by dense forests and blessed with an ideal geographical location, the natural conditions here are highly suitable for the habitat and breeding of birds. The garden was officially opened to the public as a tourist attraction in April 1999.

The Bird Garden is built in an open-air style with enclosures that follow the mountain’s terrain, greatly preserving the original forest and vegetation while also reflecting a return to nature where humans and birds coexist in harmony. Currently, the garden is home to 512 birds of 32 different species, including several under national key protection: Lady Amherst's pheasant, silver pheasant, Elliot's pheasant, swan goose, bean goose, bar-headed goose, mandarin duck, black-necked long-tailed pheasant, blue eared pheasant, hill myna, and large parrots. Visitors can have direct contact with various birds. The Bird Garden attracts many guests with its uniquely styled cockfighting performances, leaving unforgettable memories. It also sells peacock fans, various bird specimens, bird eggs, and more.

The garden also features classical-style waterside pavilions and small bridges with a recirculating water system, where clear water flows continuously beneath the bridges. There is a tree trunk-style walking path over 500 meters long, along with a large rockery, creating breathtaking scenery that captivates visitors. The garden also has an “Observation Deck,” from which visitors can enjoy the charming views of the naval port and watch the majestic sight of various warships entering and leaving the harbor. A wartime storage depot built during the Russo-Japanese War still remains in the garden, equipped with underground pipes leading directly to the military port dock to supply provisions to ships. This garden is the only bird-watching base in the Lushun area and also serves as a wildlife rescue center. Every year, as migratory birds pass through Lushun during their southern migration, a large number of injured or sick birds are found by local military personnel, civilians, and others, then sent to Lushun Bird Garden for treatment. Nearly 100 nationally protected Class I and II birds are treated here each year, and after recovery, they are released back into nature.
