Former Site of Lushun Dock

The former site of Lushun Dock is a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

The former site of Lushun Dock is located at No. 58 Gangwan Street, Lushunkou District, Dalian City, Liaoning Province. Construction began in the spring of 1883 and was fully completed on November 6, 1890. It was inspected and accepted by officials including Ding Ruchang, the Admiral of the Beiyang Navy, and Zhou Fu, the Surveillance Commissioner of Zhili. The inspection was completed on November 9, and the dock was put into use immediately after.

In June 1880, Li Hongzhang, Viceroy of Zhili and Minister of Beiyang, decided to open a port and build a dock in Lushunkou. After the completion of the dock, the Lushun Dock Bureau of the Beiyang Navy was established, making it one of the earliest large-scale shipbuilding enterprises in modern China. The Pingyuan, China’s first iron-hulled warship manufactured by the Mawei Shipyard of the Fuzhou Shipbuilding Bureau, was the first to enter the dock for maintenance. Subsequently, the Beiyang Fleet’s Dingyuan, Zhenyuan, and various other ships of different sizes successively underwent repairs in the large dock. Lushun Dock was also the first factory in China to use modern hydroelectric facilities.

In May 2013, the former site of Lushun Dock was listed as part of the seventh batch of National Key Cultural Relics Protection Units.

Protected Area: Within 10 meters to the east, west, and north of the main dock.

Construction Control Zone: A Zone II construction control area within 50 meters outside the protected area.
