Former Site Museum of the Kwantung Army Headquarters

The Former Site Museum of the Kwantung Army Headquarters is a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

The Former Site Museum of the Kwantung Army Headquarters is located in Lushunkou District, Dalian. Built in 1903, it is a well-preserved modern Russian-style building. The main structure consists of a two-and-a-half-story brick, stone, and timber-framed building with a total floor area of nearly 3,000 square meters.

This historic building has gone through a century of change and has changed hands many times. In 1906, it housed the Army Department of the Guandong Governor-General’s Office. On April 12, 1919, it was converted into the headquarters of the Kwantung Army. Until September 18, 1931, a total of nine Kwantung Army commanders had their offices here. Major events that shocked both China and the world, including the “September 18th Incident,” were plotted and planned within these walls.

The museum is divided into three exhibition halls, four restored rooms, and one audiovisual room. The thematic exhibition “The Army of Sin – The Kwantung Army” features over 300 precious historical photographs and a large number of artifacts, chronicling the history of the Kwantung Army from its establishment to its demise. It provides visitors with profound education and enlightenment as they revisit modern history.

In May 2013, the State Council (State Council Document [2013] No. 13) designated the Former Site Museum of the Kwantung Army Headquarters as a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.
