Former Site of Lushun Middle School

The former site of Lushun Middle School is a cultural heritage protection unit of Dalian.

The former site of Lushun Middle School is located at No. 58 Stalin Road, Lushunkou District. On June 28, 2013, it was included in the fifth batch of municipal-level cultural heritage protection units in Dalian.

The former site of Lushun Middle School, located at No. 58 Stalin Road in Lushun Sun Valley, was built in 1900. At the time of its construction, the first floor was a department store operated by Germans, and the second floor was a German merchants' club. After 1905, Japanese merchants opened a Western food store here. In 1909, the Japanese authorities established the “Kwantung Governor-General’s Middle School” here to accommodate the growing number of Japanese elementary school students in Lushun who needed secondary education. This was the first Japanese boys’ middle school founded by the Japanese in the Kwantung Leased Territory, with a five-year curriculum, later renamed “Lushun Middle School.” It served as a site for colonial assimilation education imposed by Japan.

Protected Area: The protected area includes the exterior base walls of the original building, extending 4 meters west, 10 meters north, and within the existing perimeter wall on the east and south sides.

Construction Control Zone: A 20-meter area surrounding the protected zone is designated as a Class IV construction control zone.
