The former residence of Otani Kōzui was built during the period of Russian rule and is a two-story building in a Japanese-European architectural style. Otani Kōzui (1876–1948) was the 22nd abbot of the Nishi Honganji Temple in Japan, as well as an explorer who organized three expeditions to Central Asia between 1902 and 1912. During the Japanese puppet regime period, Otani Kōzui moved to Lüshun and resided in this building, where he also served as the director of the Lüshun Museum.
