Lushun Garrison Hospital

Lushun Garrison Hospital is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Liaoning Province.

Lushun Garrison Hospital, the former site of which is located southwest of the intersection of Jiusan Road and Jiusan West First Lane in Lushun District, Dalian. Built in 1888, it covers a construction area of 797 square meters, features a brick-and-wood structure, faces east with its back to the west, and is divided into two sections: front and rear. The front section is a two-story building, 95 meters long, 21 meters wide, and about 10 meters high; the rear section is about 80 meters long and 29 meters wide. The two sections are connected by a corridor approximately 3 meters wide and 25 meters long, forming a complete composite building complex. It is a classical European-style structure and was known at the time as the “Qing Army Beiyang Fleet Hospital,” one of the earliest hospitals established by the Qing government within its territory. The hospital had both Traditional Chinese Medicine and Western Medicine departments, managed through consultations and appointments by officials from the Beiyang Navy Command, the Naval Affairs Office, and the Tianjin Customs Administration. It ceased operations after the outbreak of the First Sino-Japanese War in 1894. In March 1898, Russia forcibly leased Lüshun and Dalian, converting the hospital into a mixed-field army hospital and expanding and renovating it. After the Russo-Japanese War, Japan took over the hospital and renamed it “Lushun Garrison Hospital.”
