Tiantiao Mountain in Changtu

Tiantiao Mountain lies to the north of Liujia Tun in Dongming Village, Changtu Town, and to the south of Tiantiao Village. It is 9 kilometers from the county seat and is the third highest peak in Changtu. The mountain features graceful contours and beautiful scenery. It has two peaks, north and south, about a hundred meters apart. The southern peak, known as Tiantiao Peak, is rugged with bizarre rocks resembling a spider, hence also called Spider Peak. It stands 457 meters above sea level with a relative height of 230 meters. The northern peak has a sunken shape, known as Dawa Peak (or Dajiazi Peak), reaching an elevation of 468 meters. The two peaks stand opposite each other, towering and precipitous. A bridge-like ridge connects their midsections, featuring steep cliffs that resemble a natural bridge, hence the name Tiantiao Mountain. The most perilous part of the bridge spans over ten meters, only wide enough for a single person to pass. Walking across it, one looks down at a sheer drop of hundreds of feet, feeling dizzy and thrilled. Yet climbing to the peaks rewards visitors with breathtaking views. It is a popular destination for tourists. In the northeast corner of the mountain lies a natural karst cave, featuring a dry cave extending for miles, beyond which lies a water cave. The cave is filled with stalactites, with a flat and spacious interior. According to locals, it was a grain storage site used by the Liao troops during the Liao and Jin dynasties.
