You’ll have to look sideways to spot the "terns" — The Four Points by Sheraton Penghu is full of clever design details

The newly opened The Four Points by Sheraton Penghu features thoughtful design elements throughout the hotel. For example, hidden green sea turtles and butterflies adorn the lobby walls, stone pillars mimic the basalt joints of basalt rock with terns circling around them, ceiling lights are shaped like traditional fishing baskets, and the carpets in the guest room corridors are decorated with coreopsis flowers, all weaving together the essence of Penghu.

The design of The Four Points by Sheraton Penghu is centered around marine elements. From a distance, you can see that the main structure is L-shaped, with a towering 78.5-meter lighthouse-shaped building at the intersection. Stepping into the high-ceilinged lobby, the first thing you see is the fishing basket-shaped light fixtures, inspired by the traditional fish traps once essential to every household in Penghu and the traditional fishing method known as "zhao hai."

Nearby, white stone pillars are designed to resemble Penghu’s unique basalt landscape. Look at them horizontally and you’ll notice terns circling the walls. The front desk is located inside a “ship cabin,” with stained glass beneath the ship’s bow depicting coastal marine life.

Penghu is the home of green sea turtles and many endemic butterfly species. Take a closer look at another wall and you’ll find patterns that subtly feature these two animals. According to hotel staff, this wall is made of Taiwanese jade, with naturally formed patterns specially selected for display.

Coreopsis is the county flower of Penghu and can be seen everywhere across the island, which is why Penghu is also known as the “Island of Chrysanthemums.” As you head to your guest room, step out of the elevator and you’ll notice the carpets are decorated with coreopsis flowers, along with blue wave patterns symbolizing the intertidal zone — truly unique.

The hotel has a total of 331 guest rooms spread across 8 floors, with an overall color scheme based on natural wood tones paired with blue-green hues reflecting the ocean. All rooms feature magical glass partitions — if you want to enjoy the view while taking a shower, simply press a button to switch the bathroom glass from clear to fully transparent.

Although it emphasizes being part of an international chain brand, the hotel makes extensive use of local Penghu ingredients. Dine at the Julu Seafood Restaurant on the 3rd floor, where you can enjoy views of Magong’s Third Fishing Port through floor-to-ceiling windows. On the same floor, the Ikigai Buffet offers sailboat-shaped food stations, serving famous Penghu noodles and seafood congee.

For leisure facilities, the 5th floor houses a gym, billiards area, LuLu Spa, reading lounge, a ball pit beloved by children, and an infinity pool — currently the largest in Penghu. The changing rooms also include a steam room and sauna.
