2018 Michelin Guide Hong Kong Macau Released – One of the Five Restaurants That Lost Its Star Is Tim Ho Wan

The Michelin Guide Hong Kong Macau 2018 was released today (11/30). This edition includes a total of 227 restaurants in Hong Kong and 65 in Macau. All three-Michelin-starred restaurants retained their status—there were no downgrades, with eight remaining in total. There are 16 two-star restaurants and 47 one-star restaurants. However, three restaurants dropped from two stars to one star, and five one-star restaurants lost their stars, including Tim Ho Wan North Point, which is well-known among Taiwanese.

In the latest edition of the Michelin Guide Hong Kong Macau, there are no new entries in the three-star or two-star categories, but there are restaurants that have been downgraded. Originally two-star restaurants Duddell's, Ming Court, and Summer Palace have dropped to one star, while one-star restaurants Tim Ho Wan (North Point), CIAK- in the kitchen, Jade Dragon, SEASONS, and WAGYU Kaiseki Den have lost their stars. After this downgrade, Tim Ho Wan (North Point) is no longer a Michelin-starred restaurant—the only Tim Ho Wan location that still holds a star is the Sham Shui Po branch.

Although there are no new entrants in the three-star or two-star categories, there are eight new one-star restaurants: Arcane, Royal Park Hotel’s Yuboshan, Kaiseki Den by SANTOME, Rech, Tate, The Ocean, The Excelsior Hong Kong’s Eminent Pavilion, and The Campbell. Among them, Eminent Pavilion, located in The Excelsior Hong Kong, primarily serves authentic Cantonese cuisine. The current Chinese Executive Chef, Wong Wing Keung, has over 30 years of culinary experience and joined The Excelsior Hong Kong in 2013.

Additionally, at the end of October, the Michelin Guide's Bib Gourmand (tire man recommended) restaurants were announced, with a total of 82 restaurants selected—73 in Hong Kong and 9 in Macau, including 17 first-time entries. Among the newly listed is a restaurant opened in Hong Kong by two Taiwanese, “Please Sit,” which serves nostalgic Taiwanese flavors, highlighting authentic Taiwanese street food.
