Keelung City
The Yellow Rubber Duck, which burst on New Year’s Eve, has been revived after emergency repairs by the organizers and returned to Keelung Marine Plaza this morning. A pressure relief fan has also been installed inside the duck to prevent another burst.

Yingge Ceramics Museum is hosting the “Art in Clay – Taiwanese Artists’ Ceramic Works Exhibition” from now until April 20 on the third floor special exhibition room, featuring 93 ceramic creations by 24 Taiwanese artists. Among them, the 230 cm long and 115 cm wide “Humanity Series Pot117” left a deep impression on visitors. This piece, completed by Zhu Ming over five years, consists of over a hundred clay figures combined into one work, each displaying different expressions. Zhu Ming said he transformed individual forms into a collective force, representing the concept of “all living beings.”
The “Humanity Series” displayed in this exhibition are all part of the Zhu Ming Museum’s collection and are being shown for the first time with 10 selected pieces at the Ceramics Museum. The most stunning aspect is how Zhu Ming created the figures simply by rolling clay slabs, then slightly shaping and carving them with his fingers — instantly bringing out their charm, movement, and posture. The same technique was used for the clay fish, where a large slab is folded and sculpted into shape, achieving a perfect balance between roughness and delicacy, as well as the natural swimming posture and robust form of the fish.

Miaoli County
The Miaoli County Government International Cultural and Tourism Bureau is holding the “2014 Beauty of Contemporary Woodcarving Special Exhibition” from now until January 26 in the First Exhibition Room, displaying award-winning works from past years and internationally acclaimed pieces from the Woodcarving Museum’s collection — a total of 30 works. Each piece of wood is meticulously carved, chiseled, engraved, and polished through rough shaping, fine detailing, and surface treatment, with every step infused with the artisan’s dedication to breathing artistic life into the wood. The beauty of woodcarving is vividly presented, and all art and culture enthusiasts are welcome to join in.

The Taichung National Museum of Natural Science, in its first collaboration with the National Science Council Foundation for the Promotion of Science Education, Scientific American Magazine, and Global Science Magazine, has launched the “Amazing ‘New Vision’” Science Photography Competition. Sixty winning entries are on display from January 4 to June 8 in the museum’s Second Special Exhibition Room. The content covers physical, astronomical, chemical, biological, medical, earth science, and environmental ecology subjects, all capturing creative and scientifically meaningful images. Through the self-expression of image creation processes and techniques, the exhibition aims to convey the diverse pathways of the scientific world and broaden the horizons and joy of knowledge exploration.

The “2013 Teddy Bear Taichung Happy Carnival,” organized by the Taiwan Teddy Bear Association under the guidance of the Taichung City Government, features an exclusive theme bear designed by renowned Taiwanese designer Aaron Nieh (Xiao Qingyang). The event combines art and local industry, and is being held from now until January 5 at Taichung’s Autumn Valley, Caotun Boulevard, City Hall Plaza, and Shin Kong Mitsukoshi exhibition spaces.

Tainan City
The white rubber duck at Jingzijiao Salt Fields in Beimen District stands 3 meters tall and 3.5 meters wide, entirely made of salt. It took 20 days to create and is scheduled to be on display until after the Lunar New Year. Netizens can plan a visit to see Taiwan’s homegrown version of the duck.
