Summer Firefly Viewing & Camping: 7 Routes to Explore Pingtung

With summer here, Pingtung County Government has launched the “Love Pingtung Farm Tour” event, featuring seven unique routes to help everyone enjoy 11 farms in Pingtung with ease. Options include staying overnight on farms to watch “fireflies” (known locally as “fire gold aunties”) light up the night, playing freely on lush green fields, and exploring beautiful wetlands to get up close with diverse ecosystems. It’s a fulfilling mini-vacation for the summer.

Pingtung County Government has partnered with multiple farms, including Xunzhiyuan, Damoli Farm, Datuo Family Leisure Farm, Quanyuan Leisure Farm, Butong Crocodile Ecological Farm, and Yingda Ecological Leisure Farm. Additionally, it has invited Kenting National Park Headquarters, Maolin National Scenic Area Administration, Dapeng Bay National Scenic Area Administration, Liudui Hakka Cultural Park, and Indigenous Peoples Cultural Park to collaborate on integrating road signs, providing visitors with better directional guidance for traveling in Pingtung.

The seven routes of the Love Pingtung Farm Tour are: Peninsula Camping Theme 2-Day Tour, Pingbei Indigenous Mythology Journey, Flower Scent Journey, Happy Bird Days, Green Wonderland, Crocodile Quest, and Glowing Fireflies. A total of 30 one-day and two-day tour sessions are planned. Among them,“Pingbei Indigenous Mythology Journey”takes you to Hongqi Organic Leisure Farm in Gaoshu Township to taste organically grown local specialties, experience fun Hakka-style handmade rice cake pounding, visit the Qingshanpi Indigenous Cultural Village to explore tribal culture and DIY beautiful floral headbands to bring home happiness and joy.“Flower Scent Journey”brings you to Damoli Leisure Farm in Ligang Township to learn how to make eco-bricks from newspapers for building houses, taste wood-fired pizza, and visit Xunzhiyuan Herbal Leisure Farm to DIY your own natural mosquito repellent.“Happy Bird Days”includes a visit to Datuo Family Leisure Farm in Yanpu Township, where you can stand on an ostrich egg, hug baby ostriches, and DIY ostrich egg painting at Quanyuan Leisure Farm in Wanluan Township.

“Green Wonderland”takes you to Youyuan Ecological Leisure Farm in Linluo Township to search for beetles and butterflies, and to Yingda Ecological Leisure Farm in Wanluan Township for a picnic date on the vast grassland.“Crocodile Quest”lets you experience a life-and-death tug-of-war with crocodiles at Butong Crocodile Ecological Farm in Chaozhou Township. “Glowing Fireflies” visits Yiranju Firefly Eco-Farm in Xinxibei Township to see how a firefly habitat is successfully created.
