The "Units Exhibition: This much, That much, How much?"—its first overseas tour—organized by INCEPTION Qiyi Cultural Creativity and curated by Tokyo 21_21 DESIGN SIGHT, brings together a curatorial team composed of nearly 30 designers, architects, scholars, and more. Drawing inspiration from the everyday yet familiar concept of "units," the exhibition transforms the ubiquitous "units" in life through simple, playful "comparisons," as well as richly creative expressions that blend visual, digital, and design aesthetics. This approach breathes life into the things we take for granted—or even find difficult to grasp—making "units" vividly come alive.

A "unit" is a way of defining the otherwise elusive—like air, water, materials, light, sound, and the natural environment—through certain standards, so that they can be compared, shared, and contemplated. Measurements like meters for length, grams for weight, minutes and seconds for time—all these diverse units surrounding us—are indispensable in daily life.

With the progress of the times, new units continue to emerge—for example, pixels (pixel) and bytes (Byte). Of course, the design around us also utilizes various units. Industries involved in product development such as architecture, industrial design, printing, and packaging use a wide variety of units throughout the processes of design, production, logistics, and sales. Understanding how these "units" are used, and how their usage aligns with the culture of local societies, is something the organizers hope will encourage visitors to re-examine the importance of design and life.
