From the onset of winter last year, Beijing’s weather has remained frigid under sub-zero temperatures, yet snow had been long-awaited and slow to arrive—until the second day of the Lunar New Year, when the first snowfall finally graced the city. The Palace Museum in Beijing also released a series of photos featuring the snow-draped Forbidden City, which, coated in a delicate layer of snow, looked like something out of a movie—dreamlike and surreal.

Although winter is cold, Beijing had been waiting all season for this first snowfall. This winter, frequent activity of cold air from the north kept temperatures continuously low, but due to insufficient moisture, snow had been delayed.
The Forbidden City, dusted with a light layer of snow, looks dreamlike.
But why are people so eager for snow in Beijing? Because after snowfall, the air becomes cleaner, and the entire city becomes incredibly beautiful—every corner turns into a romantic painting. Kids play in the snow, adults admire it, so everyone is happy when it snows.
The snow isn’t heavy, but just enough to give the Forbidden City an entirely different atmosphere.
Then, on the second day of the Lunar New Year, Beijing welcomed the first snow of the winter. Though not heavy, it was enough to beautifully adorn the entire city.
The snow-falling Forbidden City resembles a scene straight out of a historical drama.
Every corner of the Forbidden City takes on a new look thanks to the snow.
