No less enchanting than the Arashiyama Bamboo Grove, the Taiji Meidi Eco-Engineering

The bamboo path in Arashiyama, Japan, resembles a dreamlike and healing scene that many tourists are eager to visit. Similarly, Taiwan also has many bamboo trails as stunning as fairylands, one of the most beautiful being the Changyuanzhen Ancient Trail. Located within the Little Half-Day Scenic Area in Lugu, Nantou, the area is situated at a higher elevation, where accessing water was difficult for early residents. It wasn’t until the Japanese colonial period that the channel was manually dug and bridged through canal construction, giving rise to the Changyuanzhen Irrigation Channel, which solved the water supply issue. The water in the channel remains clear and lush with greenery. However, with the progress of the times and the introduction of pipelines, this place was gradually forgotten. Thanks to the restoration of the trail using eco-engineering techniques by the Soil and Water Conservation Bureau, the natural mountain forest landscape has been revived.

Taiwan boasts abundant natural ecological resources and countless world-class scenic wonders. Walking along the Changyuanzhen Ancient Trail feels like stepping into the movie “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.” Along the trail, there are stairs leading to the “Mengzong Bamboo Forest Ancient Battlefield” of the Lin Shuangwen Rebellion, filled with an air of historical mystery. Additionally, the area gained even more appeal as a must-visit destination thanks to an advertisement featuring international superstar Cate Blanchett, making the Little Half-Day Scenic Area a perfect spot for visitors to immerse themselves in the embrace of phytoncides.
