Additionally, two Hong Kong tourists got stranded while skiing in the Furano area, trapped at an altitude of over 1,800 meters. Fortunately, they possessed...the knowledge and skills to dig snow sheltersand managed to survive the night in temperatures as low as minus 14 degrees Celsius by taking refuge in a snow cave.
This blizzard brought strong winds along with heavy snowfall, resulting in rapid accumulation of 10 cm of snow in just three hours. Snowfall began to ease after the afternoon of the 22nd, but snow depth in mountainous areas reached up to 2 meters, with other locations seeing accumulations between 40–60 cm. Temperatures ranged from minus 4°C to 12°C. Travelers heading to Hokkaido in the near future should not only stay updated on transportation info but also be fully prepared with adequate cold-weather gear.
