As autumn arrives, the Japanese maple leaves in front of the Alishan Workstation under Chiayi Forest District Office have turned a vivid, translucent red, a truly delightful sight.

Compared to last year, this year’s Japanese maple leaves have turned nearly two weeks earlier and have now entered their peak viewing period.

The red leaves this year are slightly less vibrant in color and density compared to previous years, but they are still dazzlingly beautiful.

Japanese maple trees are relatively rare in Alishan, mainly distributed around the Alishan Workstation, Alishan Pavilion, Ciyun Temple, and Xianglin Elementary School, with the highest concentration at Xianglin Elementary School.

Since the photos were taken in an employee dormitory area that is not open to the public—a restricted zone—those wishing to admire the maple colors can plan to visit in November when Alishan’s foliage will be in full splendor.
