Seizing the moment, KLM Airlines (KLM) capitalized on the trend by collaborating with Facebook Messenger — a feature originally meant only for chatting — to boldly launch a new service called KLM on Messenger. Passengers can now use it to check in, receive their boarding passes, and get updates on the latest travel status.
As the first airline to come up with this idea, it’s truly groundbreaking and convenient. Passengers who book tickets on KLM.com just need to select the option to receive flight information via Messenger when filling out their personal details. After confirming the booking, they will receive their flight details through Messenger.
On the day of departure, they’ll also get a Check-In reminder. Once they complete the check-in process via their mobile phone, they’ll receive a QR code boarding pass. If there are any changes to the flight, KLM can instantly notify passengers through Messenger.
Currently, KLM’s Facebook page already has over 10 million followers, so using Messenger for real-time communication serves many passengers well. This way, passengers don’t need to download any additional apps, and it also greatly increases interactivity.
