A sea of tulips for all to enjoy—500 camellias are being given away!

The first major flower event of spring—the 2019 Taipei Camellia Exhibition—ends on January 20. In addition to rare camellia potted plants, the tulip fields in the Floral Experiment Center are blooming beautifully. Travelers who love flowers should seize the opportunity.

This year’s exhibition specially incorporates paintings by Teacher Tsai Ming-Dian, which complement the camellia potted plants to create a beautiful blend of Eastern and Western aesthetics. On opening day, a large crowd turned up, and with the highly anticipated camellia giveaway event, over 10,000 people have already visited to enjoy the flowers and relax. Flower lovers might want to take some time to head up the mountain.

This year’s camellia exhibition is themed “The Song of Camellias.” “Camellia” is the Japanese word for the flower. Each winter and early spring, camellias bloom abundantly, while birds in the floral center such as Japanese white-eyes, Chinese bulbuls, Taiwan blue magpies, tree sparrows, and black bulbuls can be seen hopping and chirping among the branches and blooms.

The Floral Experiment Center has collected over 500 varieties and more than 3,000 camellia plants, making it the largest in-situ camellia planting area in Taiwan. Having been planted for decades, the area has formed a unique camellia forest landscape, and the camellia tunnel is a spot that travelers find hard to leave.

The outdoor area of the Floral Center opens daily at 8 AM, while the indoor exhibition hall is open from 9 AM to 4 PM. To complement the camellia exhibition, the center has also planted tulips, hyacinths, foxgloves, delphiniums, and various other flowers, many of which are now in bloom. Especially the tulip fields have drawn many visitors for photos, and it is expected that many flowers will be in full bloom this weekend. Flower-loving travelers shouldn’t miss out on capturing stunning shots.
