Taiwan’s only ultra-high-altitude scenic mountain railway—Taipingshan’s Bumper Car Railway is officially back in service!

The bumper car railway in Taipingshan Forest Recreation Area, Yilan, which was damaged by Typhoon Saola in 2012, has been confirmed to resume operations on September 19. From September 19 to September 30, tickets will be available at a 50% discount.

A “Taipingshan ‘Bumper’ Heartfelt Invitation” 2018 Bumper Car Railway Relaunch Event will be held at 10:00 AM on September 19. Ticket sales for the day will begin at 11:00 AM, with services running at 12:30, 13:30, 14:30, and 15:30. Each visitor riding on the day will receive one limited-edition consecutive-numbered commemorative ticket and one bumper car souvenir.

The bumper car railway covers a total distance of 3 kilometers and takes about 20 minutes to complete, with the terminal station being Maosing Station. There were originally two nature trails: the Maosing Nostalgia Trail and the Three-Tier Waterfall Trail. Due to damage from Typhoons Saola in 2012 and Dujuan in 2014, only 900 meters of the Maosing Nostalgia Trail have been restored, divided into an upper loop, lower loop, and main route. The full walk takes about 50 minutes, taking you through the towering canopies of cypress and cedar forests where you can breathe in fresh air. The forest floor is rich in ferns, offering a glimpse of Jurassic-era flora. The Three-Tier Waterfall Trail, however, suffered multiple severe landslides and remains closed indefinitely as repairs are not yet possible.
