Heading to Yilan: The Splendid Return of the “Andalucía”
Magellan’s “Age of Exploration” is a well-known geographical tale, and Western antique ships are one of the important witnesses of history; the Spanish “Galeón Andalucía,” modeled after a 17th-century “galleon,” has been sailing around many countries since March this year. It is currently on display at the Spain Pavilion of the Shanghai Expo and will arrive this week at the beautiful Su’ao Port in Taiwan, recreating the charm and splendor of the olden days.
The “Age of Exploration” holds epoch-making significance.
The voyage route of the replica ship follows the course from over 300 years ago, starting from Seville, Spain, passing through the Mediterranean Sea, the Red Sea, and the Indian Ocean, making stops in Malta, Israel, Egypt, Sri Lanka, Singapore, and other locations. After more than five months, it arrived in Shanghai for the Expo exhibition. After concluding its visit to Taiwan, it will return to Spain along the original route.
The “Galeón Andalucía” is modeled after a 17th-century galleon.
The “Galeón Andalucía” is expected to sail for three days and will enter Su’ao Port in Yilan on the 17th. The public is welcome to visit Wushih Harbor Pier. Visiting hours are from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM from September 19th to 22nd. Come experience the grandeur of the Age of Exploration and board the ship to witness the magnificence of Western colonial-era vessels.
