The tsunami caused flooding in areas of Hakodate City near the sea, including around JR Hakodate Station and the Kanemori Red Brick Warehouse district, and directly damaged Hakodate’s tourism industry. According to the latest updates from the Hakodate City Tourism Promotion Division, the waters have now receded from the morning market and the Kanemori area. Thanks to local efforts, the Kanemori Red Brick Warehouse was restored and reopened on the 17th, and the morning market was back in operation on the 19th, with some previously closed shops gradually resuming business. Major tourist attractions outside the coastal areas, except for the “Seikan Ferry Memorial Ship Moshuku Maru” next to JR Hakodate Station, which remains closed, have not been affected. The main tourist facilities in the Motomachi cross street area—including museums, Western-style buildings, and the Hakodate Mountain Ropeway for night views—are all operating normally. Regarding accommodation, according to the Hakodate Hotel Association, hotel reservations have also returned to normal.

In terms of transportation links, express buses from Sapporo to Hakodate are still running. However, another commonly used transport option for independent travelers—Japan Railways (JR)—has seen some trains and tracks flooded. Although some train services remain available, there are partial suspensions on routes to Sapporo, Esashi, and Oshamanbe. Sleeper trains from Tokyo to Hakodate have sustained more significant damage, and it is currently unclear when services will resume.
