Taiwan's Top 10 Tourism Towns Announced: Lukang Makes a Comeback While Sanyi Misses Out

The results of the "Taiwan's Top 10 Tourism Towns" selection, organized by the Tourism Bureau of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications, have been released. Miaoli’s Sanyi, which ranked second in the public voting, surprisingly did not make the list, while Changhua’s Lukang, originally ranked fourth from the bottom in public voting, surged into the top ten.

According to the Tourism Bureau, the final list in stroke order is: "Mazu Culture" (Dajia District, Taichung County), "Presidential Town of Daxi" (Taoyuan County), "Beitou – The Charming Town of Taipei" (Taipei City), "Anping – Where Taiwan’s Name Originates" (Tainan City), "Kinmen’s Houpu – A Quaint Old Town" (Kinmen County), "Meinong – Where Beauty and Warmth Thrive" (Kaohsiung City), "Lukang – Crafts, Cuisine, and Historic Sites" (Changhua County), "Jiji – Train Impressions – Stepping into the Breezy Jiji" (Nantou County), "Ruifang – The Hidden Mines of Shuijinjiu" (New Taipei City), and "Jiaoxi – A Wellness Town with Hot Springs" (Yilan County).

Although Miaoli’s Sanyi did not make the list, it was still honored as the "Town with the Most Distinct Local Characteristics." In addition, Hualien’s Ruisui was named the "Cleanest and Tidiest Tourism Town," while Taipei’s Xinyi District was awarded the title of "Town with the Highest International Tourism Potential." The selected Top 10 Tourism Towns and the three Featured Towns will each receive a prize of NT$500,000 and will also be highlighted in the Tourism Bureau’s future international promotional efforts. Those that did not make the cut—Mazu’s Beigan, Pingtung’s Liuqiu, Penghu’s Magong, and Taitung’s Lucao—have been listed as towns with tourism potential.
