Trial operation of Hongmaogang Park: Free admission with yacht ride

After groundbreaking in 2009, the Hongmaogang Cultural Park began its trial operation earlier this month after more than three years of preparation. It has launched three sightseeing yachts—"Haishan," "Wujin," and "Baobi"—allowing visitors to enjoy sunsets and the sight of large ships entering the harbor from the bay. During the trial period, park admission is offered at a half-price discount of NT$49, while round-trip yacht tickets include entry fees, priced at NT$150 for adults, NT$75 for half-price tickets, and NT$120 for group tickets. Residents who relocated from Hongmaogang after 1990 can apply for an entry permit from the Cultural Affairs Bureau and enjoy free admission and yacht rides during the June trial period upon presentation of the permit.

The Hongmaogang Cultural Park is situated at the entrance of Kaohsiung Harbor’s Second Port. It was renovated using the existing Gaozi Tower and surrounding environmental resources, covering a total area of 3.42 hectares. The park features six main areas: the "Gaozi Tower Revolving Restaurant," "Exhibition Hall," "Outdoor Exhibition Area," "Skywalk," "Dock and Waiting Room," and "Seaview Platform." These spaces showcase the unique way of life accumulated over generations by the Hongmaogang residents, such as "o_lake," "shrimp seedling farming," "cuttlefish and kahwee fishing," "local temples," and "the charm of sail rafts." Through technology and creative curation, the park presents the historical essence of Hongmaogang.

In addition, the Hongmaogang Cultural Park has integrated yacht tourism by launching sightseeing yachts named "Haishan," "Wujin," and "Baobi," inspired by the cultural characteristics of the Hongmaogang settlement. Taking a yacht tour of Hongmaogang allows visitors not only to enjoy the sunset and get an up-close view of "ships entering the harbor," but also to take in the full scope of Kaohsiung Harbor’s container operations during the ride. During the trial period, the first route will be the Xiaogang Line, shuttling between Xiaogang Dock and the cultural park. The B2 Art Zone Line is expected to launch in July.

Residents who relocated from Hongmaogang after 1990 can apply for an entry permit from the Cultural Affairs Bureau and enjoy free admission and yacht rides during the June trial period upon presentation of the permit. After the official opening in July, they can enter the park for free with the permit and receive a 50% discount on yacht tickets.
