Recently, news about Taiwanese tourists canceling their orders at a Japanese youth hostel and abandoning a car on Ishigaki Island has gone viral online, prompting many netizens to reflect on whether they’ve ever engaged in similar actions or had similar experiences that might have caused inconvenience to others. Sometimes, differences in foreign cultures and languages can inadvertently lead to misunderstandings, but certain disrespectful behaviors are universally frowned upon. An overseas website surveyed 10 unacceptable behaviors on airplanes—let’s see if we’ve ever done any of them.

● Reclining Your Seat Randomly
While it’s inevitable to adjust your seat for comfort on a plane, sometimes excessive reclining may require consideration for the passenger behind you. For example, reclining too much during meal service can also cause inconvenience to others. It’s recommended to avoid reclining the backrest unless you’re taking a short nap, and remember to return it to its original position after landing.

● Unpleasant Odors
During long flights, some passengers remove their shoes to let their tired feet breathe and feel more comfortable, but this can be torture for those nearby. Scientific research shows that most people with smelly feet are unaware of it. Aside from changing into clean socks and cleaning your shoes, think twice before taking off your shoes. Also, avoid eating pungent foods like garlic before boarding, or you might unknowingly become the most unpopular person in the cabin.

● Out-of-Control Kids
Most people can empathize with the cries of a baby, but if a child is already in elementary school and still making endless loud noises, especially for passengers trying to rest on a long flight, it can be hard to tolerate.

● Standing Up by Holding the Seat in Front
Imagine you’re sleeping in your seat when someone suddenly yanks your seat from behind—maybe even pulling your hair by accident. The annoyance of standing up by holding the seat in front of you suddenly becomes more understandable.

● Speaking Loudly
It’s natural to be excited about traveling abroad, but most people just want to rest on the plane. Speaking loudly is practically a form of harassment, and chatting loudly enough to carry over seats is double the annoyance.
