In late winter and early spring, various areas of Taipei are in full bloom. The star performer, “cherry blossoms,” are at their peak. In addition to the Yangmingshan Cherry Blossom Festival, there are also many great cherry blossom viewing spots in Beitou and Neihu. Furthermore, the city offers riverside sunflowers, Maokong lupines, and Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall tulips, all adding a romantic touch of spring to the urban landscape. Why not take a stroll outside during this season of blooming flowers?
Yangmingshan Flower Season
The 2017 Yangmingshan Flower Season kicked off on February 10 and ran until March 19. Thousands of cherry blossom trees can be found in Yangmingshan Park and the Flower Trial Center. From early February’s mountain cherries to late March’s Yoshino cherries, there’s also a Spring Carnival street parade on March 4 where you can enjoy both the flowers and international performances.

Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall Tulips
In conjunction with the 2017 Universiade, the Taipei City Government’s Parks Department has been busy decorating key urban locations and connecting roads. In addition to vivid green sculptures symbolizing the spirit of sports, rare bulbs and brightly colored “tulips” have been planted to make the streets of Taipei even more colorful.

No. 1 Park Herb Garden
Taipei’s first herb garden features a landscape design inspired by leaf veins. The paths formed by these veins divide the planting areas, allowing visitors to leisurely explore, get close to, experience, and interact with various types and fragrances of herb plants.

Neigouxi Happy Park Cherry Blossoms
Located near Donghu MRT Station in Neihu District, Happy Park is currently the perfect time for cherry blossom viewing. The Taipei City Government’s Public Works Bureau, Parks Department, has recently installed 32 special street lamps along the walking path, creating a brand-new night cherry blossom viewing spot. Now, residents can step out their front doors to admire cherry blossoms that grow even more beautiful as night falls.

Taipei Riverside Flower Seas
At the Dunhuang Wharf in Dadaocheng, tens of thousands of pots of blooming flowers create a vibrant and colorful scene. The Taipei Water Department says the flower viewing period runs from now until after the Lunar New Year (late February). Everyone is welcome to come out during the holiday to enjoy a spring walk along the riverside—bike through the flower seas during the day and take in the waterway night views of greater Taipei in the evening. It’s healthy and relaxing.

Datunli Wu Family Ancestral Hall Mountain Cherry Grove
The mountain cherry grove at the Wu Family Ancestral Hall on Fuxing 3rd Road in Beitou District’s Datunli has begun to bloom, with its red and pink blossoms captivating visitors. The cherry blossom tunnel will also soon enter its full bloom period. It is recommended that visitors take the Tamsui-Xinyi Line of the MRT to Xinzhuangbei Station, then transfer to bus “Little 6” up the mountain. The bus travels through mountainous areas and allows passengers to hop on and off, making it very convenient.

Fuxing 3rd Road Cherry Blossom Tunnel
The famous “Cherry Blossom Tunnel” along Fuxing 3rd Road in Beitou District’s Datunli features a stretch of eye-catching crimson blossoms. Originally planned and planted by the Beitou District Office in its early days, it has become the stunning sight it is today thanks to years of careful cultivation and strong support from the local office and residents. Along Fuxing 3rd Road leading up to BaiGong Villa, the cherry blossoms on both sides of the road create a romantic and incredibly beautiful scene when in full bloom. Walking along the path strewn with fallen petals fills the air with fragrance and surrounds you with soft, gorgeous beauty as you wander beneath the crimson blossoms.
