The seasonal scenic wonder "Laomei Green Reef Slots," located along the Tanjin Highway on the Northern Coast, turns a vibrant emerald green every spring, resembling a coastal green carpet that attracts numerous visitors and photography enthusiasts eager to witness its beauty.

The Laomei Green Reef Slots are situated near the seashore at around Kilometer 25 on Provincial Highway 2 of the Tanjin Highway on the Northern Coast. They only appear abundantly between April and May each year, then temporarily vanish with the arrival of summer. However, the seaweed spores remain in the crevices of the rocks, waiting to regrow when the northeast monsoon returns. Comprising sea-eroded grooves and seaweed, the unique landscape draws large crowds and photography lovers every spring to this seasonal coastal green carpet.

The neatly arranged Laomei Reef Slots, all stretching vertically into the sea, feature clearly defined rock ridges and a uniquely magnificent form—making them a rather rare geological landscape among global coastal landforms. Each spring, the sea lettuce growing along the Northern Coast transforms the originally grayish-black reef slots from a tender green to vibrant emerald, and eventually to deep green and even grayish-white hues. This adds a vivid green splendor to the otherwise monochromatic rock slots, as if they’re calling forth the arrival of each new spring.

The short-lived life cycle of the green reef slots leaves many latecomers feeling heartbroken upon visiting—but this is actually a yearly occurrence and not due to climate change. The best time to visit the Green Reef Slots is between April and May during low tide hours. When visiting, be cautious as the rock surfaces are slippery and seawater sprays through the grooves. Avoid jumping or stepping on the reef slots to prevent personal injury and damage to the formations.
