The Zhubei Super Radish Festival Kicks Off – Kids and Adults Delight in Pulling Radishes

On the 20th, the Zhubei City Government hosted the “Super Radish Festival,” inviting both kids and adults to don gloves and rain boots, join hands, and spend a day as farmers, enjoying the farm fun of pulling radishes and harvesting vegetables. Mayor Lin Chih-chien was also present to experience it with the public, hoping to give children unforgettable rural memories.

Mayor Lin Chih-chien shared that during his childhood, he looked forward most to harvest season, when he would go to the rice fields with family to try out activities like making an “earthen oven” and pulling radishes. He hopes to let today’s children relive those wonderful rural memories.

This year’s “Super Radish Festival” attracted over 2,000 participants. The harvested radishes were of the variety known as “Red-Top Golden Cross Radish,” which are small, cute, and extremely sweet. Through this event, organizers hope to teach children that radishes grow in the soil, not on trees, while encouraging families to step out of their homes and create beautiful shared memories.

The event on the 20th was jointly organized by the Family Welfare Service Center in collaboration with the unique local industries of Qianxi Community, presenting the “Super Radish Festival.” In addition to promoting preventive services for children and youth, the venue offered vegetable picking experiences—such as spinach, garland chrysanthemum, A-leaf, and Chinese broccoli—along with glutinous rice ball making, parent-child DIY crafts, and obstacle games. Kids and adults alike came fully equipped, wearing gloves and rain boots, filling bags with freshly harvested radishes. Some children even sang the nursery rhyme “Pulling the Radish,” and everyone had a blast.
