Each year, the Hualien summer highlight known as Red Duck Fun Summer, which once caused a sensation across Taiwan, is back. The most therapeutic Red Duck family will meet visitors at Liyu Lake from July 1 to August 13. During the day, there will be rhythmic fountains, and in the evening, a spectacular sound-and-light water dance show. The most popular attraction, the Water Screen Theater “Legend of Qilai II,” allows visitors to experience the passion of the indigenous homeland.

Red Duck Fun Summer presents diverse and exciting outdoor stage performances every year, not only integrating the natural and cultural landscapes of Hualien but also beautifully complemented by the picturesque scenery of Liyu Lake in Shoufeng Township. Last year, the first-ever mountain-water live performance unique to Hualien received unanimous praise. This year, the floating stage at Liyu Lake will once again present the “Floating Water Reality Show – Legend of Qilai II.” Continuing the storyline from last year's performance and themed around “Reverence for Heaven,” the show depicts how the tribe’s people thrive amidst the vast mountains and waters, living in harmony with nature. The production showcases the traces of indigenous life, the inheritance of tribal culture, and the festive spirit of celebrating a bountiful harvest.

The 2017 Red Duck Fun Summer Water-Mountain Reality Show – Legend of Qilai II uses Liyu Mountain as the backdrop (mountain) and the surface of Liyu Lake as the canvas (water), combining performances by local indigenous dancers to create a series of captivating scenes that reflect the cultural essence of Hualien’s indigenous homeland.

This year’s program is even richer. In addition to the healing duck family and the rhythmic fountain shows, the water dance performance this year is even more spectacular. Featuring a rarely seen modern style of dynamic swaying unique to Taiwan, combined with traditional water dance forms, it incorporates dazzling, colorful high-brightness LED lights and laser animations into an integrated performance. A specially created 3D projection animation has also been introduced, showcasing not only cutting-edge technology but also integrating imagery from Hualien’s latest top 100 scenic spots, resulting in a stunning water dance spectacle—“Rippling Currents.”
