Hsinchu also has a hot air balloon event at Green Green Grassland, limited to two days

Due to Typhoon Nesat, the Hsinchu City Government announced on the evening of the 27th that the Hot Air Balloon Festival event (2017 Green Green Grassland Summer Vacation) has been postponed to August 5 and August 6.

When summer arrives, the whole of Taiwan enters its peak activity season, and among the highlights is the Hot Air Balloon Festival, one of the key summer events each year. In addition to Shimen and Taitung, where hot air balloons can be seen, Hsinchu City will also host a hot air balloon festival on July 29–30 at Green Green Grassland. Hsinchu held its first hot air balloon event last year, attracting around 70,000 participants in just two days, with some queuing up the day before the event and even camping overnight at Green Green Grassland.

Continuing last year’s high popularity, this year’s magnificent hot air balloon ascents at Green Green Grassland are combined with the longest terrazzo slide in northern Taiwan, allowing visitors not only to enjoy and experience the hot air balloon activities but also to lounge on the large lawn for a picnic and get close to nature.

Green Green Grassland is a rare large-scale grassland in Taiwan. After the hot air balloons ascend, you can gaze at the stunning 18-kilometer stretch of blue coastline. This year, at least three hot air balloons will take off at 5:30 a.m., when the airflow is most stable, using tethered launches. The event features four tethered hot air balloon experiences, offering over 1,000 free spots for visitors to ride the ascending balloons and overlook the vast Green Green Grassland. If weather conditions affect the event, it will be rescheduled to August 5 and 6.
