Checheng Police Station Goes the Extra Mile: Doubles as Nighttime Tourist Service Center

Taiwan’s first cross-governmental alliance to provide services, the “Checheng Nighttime Tourist Joint Service Center,” was officially unveiled on the afternoon of May 30 at the Checheng Police Station in Shuili, Nantou. Starting from the 30th, every evening from 5:30 PM to 10:00 PM, the Checheng Police Station will also serve as a tourist service center, offering services such as public announcements for lost persons, tourist information, free bicycle inflation and minor repairs, and car charging.

With the upcoming summer vacation travel season, Checheng Recreation Area, part of the Sun Moon Lake Scenic Area, often continues to attract visitors even after nightfall, creating a need for nighttime tourism services. The Sun Moon Lake National Scenic Area Administration stated that Checheng Recreation Area received over 1.3 million visitors last year, with daily visitor numbers averaging between 1,000 to 3,000 on weekdays and 5,000 to 10,000 on holidays. Approximately 10% to 20% of these visitors enter the tourist center for consultations or services.

The Checheng Management Station of the Sun Moon Lake Administration noted that even around 7:00 PM, many visitors still stroll through the Railway Culture Square but are unable to access sufficient tourism-related services. Therefore, plans were made to collaborate with the Checheng Police Station under the Jiji Branch of the Nantou County Police Bureau to establish a nighttime tourist joint service center, providing more comprehensive tourism services.
