Shared Memories of Climbing Yushan: The Five-Star “Paiyun Lodge” Has Opened

“Climb Yushan, stay at Paiyun Lodge” is a shared experience for many hikers. The newly renovated Paiyun Lodge reopened on July 20th. This refreshed classic offers meal services and has implemented a “no cooking” policy. With its comfortable accommodation, it’s being touted as a five-star mountain lodge.

The Yushan National Park Headquarters stated that, in addition to improving accommodation conditions, the most significant change at the new Paiyun Lodge is the provision of diverse meat and vegetarian meals, drinking water, ginger tea, and red bean soup. Sleeping bag rentals are also available but must be reserved in advance. However, under the new rules, cooking is not allowed in the lodge—not even boiling water.

The Yushan Management Office began renovating Paiyun Lodge in November 2010 (Year 99 in Taiwan’s calendar), and the project was finally completed in June this year. The new Paiyun Lodge is a two-story steel structure, with the first floor serving as a dining and lounge area, and the second floor featuring partitioned dormitory-style bunk beds. Solar water heaters have also been installed. In addition to hardware improvements, Shou-Cheng Hospital will station medical personnel at the lodge every Saturday and Sunday.

For accommodation fees, the cost is 480 NTD per person per night. Hikers need to register and enter a lottery one month in advance. As of August 5th, registrations are already full, so those interested will need to wait patiently.
