Taiwan Bicycle Festival to Kick Off – "New Concept Around Taiwan" to Explore the Island’s Four Extremes

In the cool autumn weather, cycling is the most comfortable recreational activity, and passionate cyclists even view riding around the island as a challenge and a dream. This cycling craze has been growing rapidly in Taiwan.The 2013 Taiwan Bicycle Festival will take place from November 9 to 17. Before the event, the Tourism Bureau of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications has planned warm-up activities, including the "Bicycle Extreme Points Tour Around Taiwan" and the "Celebrity-Led Passionate Riders Group." Led by cycling goddess Xiaohou (Wei Huaxuan), the group will take the top two winners of the event on a journey that combines cycling with various modes of transportation such as high-speed rail, Taiwan Railways, Taiwan Tourist Shuttle, and the MRT to cycle around the island with ease.

The first stop on the tour was the "Fangliao Art Village," where participants discovered the unique charm of the fishing port settlement amid creative and artistic alleys. Moving along the coast, they visited the Fu’an Temple in Checheng and sampled the local specialty, mung bean garlic. Continuing to Hengchun City, they left their footprints in front of the historic ancient city gate. Along the way, they leisurely enjoyed the breathtaking seascape at Taiwan’s southernmost point – the Eluanbi Lighthouse.
On the second day of the trip, the itinerary included a 70-kilometer cycling route, combined with the efficient use of the "Taiwan Railways – Tainan – Fangliao section" and the "Taiwan Tourist Shuttle – Kenting – Fangliao section." This not only allowed participants to visit key tourist spots in Taiwan but also covered the journey in the most efficient way, collecting both of Taiwan’s extreme points. The "Bicycle Extreme Points Tour Around Taiwan" embodies the spirit of "relaxed, convenient, and safe" island cycling, and continues its passionate journey toward the easternmost and northernmost points, creating a new concept of cycling around Taiwan.
