Not just Taichung–Bangkok anymore. Thai Vietjet Air to launch its first direct flights from Hualien to Bangkok in July

With Hualien’s stunning scenery, low-cost carriers have been flocking to the area. Following the successful launch of Hong Kong Express’s direct Hualien–Hong Kong route, Thai Vietjet Air has also received approval from the Civil Aeronautics Administration to begin direct flights between Hualien–Bangkok and Taichung–Bangkok on July 1. Residents of Hualien will no longer need to travel all the way to Taoyuan for their flights, and many have expressed great anticipation.

Thai Vietjet (Thai Vietjet Air), an airline invested in by Vietjet Air in Thailand, is set to launch direct flights from Taichung to Bangkok on July 1, with fares including taxes starting at NT$9,800. According to Apple Daily, Thai Vietjet will also soon open direct flights from Hualien to Bangkok, though ticket prices have not yet been finalized. All flights will be operated using Airbus A320 aircraft. Coupled with the ongoing exemption of Thai visa fees until the end of August, this makes traveling to Thailand more time-saving and budget-friendly for local residents.

The Civil Aeronautics Administration stated that Thai Vietjet Air has applied to operate 20 round-trip flights per month between Hualien and Bangkok, and between Taichung and Bangkok, from July to September. It also noted that there are currently 21 low-cost carriers operating in Taiwan, accounting for 16% of the market share, making Thai Vietjet the 22nd. The number of such carriers is expected to continue growing in the future.
