Revolution Aviation recently announced the launch of its low-cost carrier and simultaneously initiated the “Name Taiwan’s First Low-Cost Airline” campaign. The winner of the naming contest will enjoy the incredible reward of unlimited free flights on the airline for ten years, in any cabin class. As a result, submissions have poured in. On the morning of November 21st, the first day of the campaign, the official website briefly experienced congestion due to high traffic, with over 1,200 entries received within that day alone. As of December 13th, the total number of submissions has exceeded 7,000.

Currently, submissions under the “Love Taiwan” series are leading by a wide margin. From the shape of Taiwan to its local specialties, all have become naming inspirations, with “Formosa,” “Taiwan,” and “Treasure Island” being among the most favored. In addition, themes such as “Taiwan Snacks Series,” “Fruits Series,” “Flowers Series,” as well as names related to “Taiwan’s Protected Animals and Plants” have all become hot choices, reflecting the deeply rooted impression that Taiwan’s first low-cost airline is inseparable from the land of Taiwan.
With numerous submissions, participants have gotten creative. One entrant, who is a fortune teller, used calligraphy on red paper to write an extensive horoscope for the airline, even taking into account the auspicious timing of its founding, emphasizing that the suggested name brings great fortune and a soaring future, thus campaigning for their entry. Another participant, a new immigrant who has obtained Taiwanese citizenship, wrote an acrostic poem based on their recent experiences in Taiwan, cleverly embedding the proposed airline name within the poem, adding a fun twist. Even more heartwarming was a six-year-old child who couldn’t write very well yet, but used Bopomofo phonetic symbols to explain their naming idea. The adorable tone and colorful font clearly show the child’s enthusiasm for participating.
The naming campaign enters its final three days and will close for submissions at 23:59 on December 20, 2013. All entries must be submitted via email. In the event that multiple people submit the same name, priority will be given to the earliest submission.
