Fun Summer in Guanziling: Let the Mud Hot Springs Soothe Your Body and Mind While Watching Swarms of Swallowtail Butterflies Dance in the Sky

Soaking in hot springs isn’t just for winter anymore. From the 21st onward, the Siraya National Scenic Area will host a series of events titled “Taiwan Summer Solstice 235 – Fun & Relaxing Holiday in Guanziling,” inviting the public to take advantage of their summer vacation to visit Guanziling in Tainan, enjoy the region’s unique mud hot springs, and marvel at the breathtaking sight of swarms of swallowtail butterflies fluttering by.

Nestled among mountains, the Guanziling Hot Spring area has long been known as Taiwan’s No. 1 mud hot spring. As the area was developed early on, during the Japanese colonial period, it was ranked alongside Beitou, Yangmingshan, and Sichongxi hot springs as one of Taiwan’s four great hot springs. Its mud hot springs, which contain sulfur and salt, are globally rare. With temperatures around 75 degrees Celsius, the springs gush forth mixed with gray-black blue clay deposited in coral reef layers, giving them their name. A soak leaves the whole body relaxed and revitalized, washing away fatigue. Many people also apply the settled mud from the bottom of the spring to their faces or bodies for radiant, smooth skin.

The “Taiwan Summer Solstice 235 – Fun & Relaxing Holiday in Guanziling” event runs from the 21st to August 31st. In collaboration with local hot spring businesses, it offers summer wellness packages. Visitors who spend over NT$500 in a single transaction at any shop in the Guanziling area or at Yujing’s Youjian Ice Store can exchange a lottery ticket at the “Lingding Visitor Information Station.” Participate in the draw for a chance to win round-trip flights to Italy or Japan—both home to mud hot springs—as well as accommodation vouchers for Guanziling’s mud hot springs.

Additionally, the “Butterfly Amusement Park,” famous for up-close swallowtail butterfly viewing, will open every weekend from July 12th to August 24th at the Light Field within Guanziling’s Red Leaf Park. Besides swallowtail butterflies, visitors can spot up to 114 different butterfly species with varied appearances. Amidst the beauty of nature and the fragrance of phytoncides, guests can learn more about the recovering butterfly ecology within the Siraya Scenic Area through the Butterfly Amusement Park experience.
